Look What God Did!

Over the past thirty years I have written the soul-winning articles for five Christian papers at different times. I write for two papers now and they go to 316,000 people! God has used them. Hundreds have told me they read them are greatly encouraged and challenged to witness more by reading them. Ever so often now I am going to write a story about someone being saved through sharing the gospel personally. May the dear Lord use these to stir your heart to share the gospel more often.

For several days I had been in Salt Lake City, Utah and had shared the gospel with about 15 people one way or another. They were all Mormons and not one was opened to the gospel. Eating lunch at the Temple Square Hotel by myself, I gave a tract to the waitress when she took my order. This gives the Holy Spirit a chance to begin working in their hearts. It is much better than leaving a tract with the tip.

Shortly she brought my iced tea. Later she brought the salad. Finally she brought the meal. As I was eating she came and just stood at the table. I looked up at her and she said, " I read your little paper." With a smile I said, "Wonderful." Then she said, "I didn't know that." Not knowing what she meant, I asked, "You did not know what?"

She did not cry but her eyes filled up and she said, "I did not know that Jesus suffered for my sins." I lost my appetite for eating and got hungry for feeding.

Tingling all over and singing inside, I said, "Oh kind lady, He really did, for you see we are all in the same boat, we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God. God said the 'wages of sin is death' but the good news is that the Lord Jesus suffered and died for our sins, paid the debt in full and rose again so He could be our living Savior. The whole issue is did Jesus pay the debt of sin or didn't He. If He did not then we must pay for our sins and the wages of sin is death, separated from God forever. The Bible tells us 'while we were yet sinners Christ died for our sins' and He rose again. Now God tells us if we will receive the Lord Jesus as our personal Savior and call upon Him to save us we will be born again, forgiven of our sins forever. Does that make sense to you," I asked. Now with tears in her eyes she said, "Yes, it does, I never heard that before" and most have not.

Feeling assured she understood it, I asked, "Could you pray after me right now and let God know you want to trust and receive the Lord Jesus as your Savior too." With tears running down her cheeks she gladly said yes.

I led her in prayer and she prayer after me, "Lord Jesus I know I have sinned too. I am so ashamed. I believe you suffered and died for my sins, paid the debt in full and rose again. Lord Jesus, I trust you and receive you as my Savior and ask you to come into my heart and give me a new birth so I can live for you."

When we finished I gave her John 3:36, "He that believes on the Son has everlasting life" I asked if she believed on the Lord Jesus as her Savior now and not her works or religion to save her. She assured me she did and knew now she was saved. What a thrill. Of course I got her name and address to give to a pastor to follow up. GOD DID THAT and what a joy to be around when He does.
