Witnessing Through the Church
Acts 16:30-34; 1 Peter 3:1-6; 1 Thessalonians 1:8
The most important tasks the church can do are those that only the church can do. Since she cannot do everything, she must do first and best that which no one else in the world can do--make Christians" (Ellis).
Are all the children in? "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house" (Acts 16:31). It is not an automatic action, but a precious promise--"thy house" shall be saved also. It seems a tragedy for any Christian not to win his own children to Christ. "Suffer the little children to come unto me" (Mark 10:14) should move us to win our children.
Is your husband not a Christian? Did you know there is a special word to you? "You wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives" (1
Peter 3:1 NAS). If, by having heard the Word, he is disobedient to it, he can be won, without your saying a word, by your behavior! You, dear wife, stand between your husband and heaven. If he sees in you a wonderful life of godliness with a meek and quiet spirit, you can win him to Christ.
Has your church reached every home in its community? It was said of the Thessalonians, "From you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad" (1
Thessalonians 1:8). The Lord sent out his disciples two by two and spoke about going into "the streets and lanes...the highways and hedges" (Luke 14:21-23). Paul preached not only publicly but "from house to house" (Acts 20:20). When the late Jack Hyles was pastoring a church in Garland, Texas he led his church in literally going from house to house throughout the town until every home had been reached with the gospel. Thousands were brought to Christ. At Moody Bible Institute teams of students went out each day into different sections of Chicago, visiting from house to house. We planned ultimately to reach every home in Chicago with the gospel. May thousands of churches have this God-given goal for their own cities and towns.
